There are several public sources of training for public safety dispatchers, usually at the community college level and leading to a certificate or state-based license. We've identified these specific locations for training, but check your local community college district for any programs they have.

- Meridian Community College (Miss.) offers a 66-semester hour associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Emergency Management and Communications Technology, which is available for distance learning on CD.
- Medicine Hat College (Alberta, Canada) has a one-year program in Emergency Communications & Response. The same program is offered at Grant MacEwan Community College in Edmonton (Alberta).

conducts a 144-hour dispatcher academy, exceeding state standards. Classes are a mix of affiliated and non-affiliated students.

- Portland Community College - Emergency TeleCommunicator 911 program
- Portland Community College - One of the oldest colleges offering dispatcher training. They offer a 46-credit certificate program for Emergency Telecommunicator, and 40-hour NAED certificate. New in 2008 is a 44 credit-hour, one-year course in Emergency Management.
- Rio Honda College (Whittier, Calif.)
- Sacramento (Calif.) Unified School District - Charles A. Jones Skills and Business Education Center. Provides Emergency Medical Dispatching (EMD), 84-hour course that teaches fundamentals of EMD, CAD training and radio use. Students will also learn medical instruction (EMDPRS) and preparation for passing POST and other agency exams.
