Mission Statement: Public Good, Officer Safety

We asked for comm center mission statements in a past issue and received this one from Michael W. Quan from the Riverside (Ill.) Police Department. Quan said the spelling out of "communicators" is "unlike other Mission Statements I've seen." Here is their mission statement:

The Communication Officers of the Riverside Police Department have formulated their own mission statement and yearly goals for 1998 which incorporate the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics and the Riverside Police Department's Mission Statement to increase their "Esprit De Corps" and to show their devotion and highest regard for the honor of the Department.

The Communications Team Members will strive to:

Rapidly deliver service and information in a positive professional manner;

Portray a professional image being ever mindful of the public good and officer safety.

C  Confident and courteous

O Optimistic, to look for the favorable, not the negative

M Maintain high proficiency, treating each call the same

M  Maintain patience and understanding

U  Update our skills

N  Neutrality, assist not judge

I  Maintain high personal integrity

C Calm and even tempered in the performance of our duties

A  Have a strong and healthy attitude

T  Tolerance while dealing with the public and fellow officers

O  Open minded

R  Do our best while representing our Department and profession

S Sincerity, to sincerely care about people

As communicators, we provide support and information to all. The personal and professional commitment in how we provide communication knowledge and skill is based upon our pride in the Department and our chosen profession. It is this pride which separates excellence from mediocrity.
