Thanks to Kiddendorf for providing this example of a 10-hour shift schedule with rotating days off, which is used at the Cincinnati Police Department comm center . They work "5 days/off 3," combined with "4 on/ 4 off," within a 7 week period. There are seven different off day groups. Each week listed below is the off days for that particular group to start off with, then rotating through them all.
So, Group 1 is off Mon/Tues/Weds the first week, then Tues/Weds/Thurs, then Weds/Thurs/Fri... and so on... then continuing back through the cycle. Off day group 5 starts off with Sun/Fri/Sat, then Sun/Mon/Sat, then Sun/Mon/Tues, then Mon/Tues/Weds... and so on... also continuing back through the entire cycle. Our comm center is split 50/50... half on an 8-hr schedule with a "6 on/2 off" rotation and half on this 10-hr schedule. Those of us who are on this 10-hr schedule absolutely love it!
