Job Summary: The Communications Manager reports to the Police Chief and is responsible for the management of the centralized 9-1-1-communications for the Police Department. This position is the manager over Peninsula Communications (PenCom), which is the county wide 9-1-1dispatch operations for emergency law enforcement, fire suppression, and emergency medical services. PenCom agencies include the City of Port Angeles, City of Sequim, Clallam County Sheriff Department, 4 local Fire Districts, Tribal Police/Fisheries, and the Olympic National Park. The Communications Division includes a budget of $2 million and 21 employees. The computer operating system is an IBM AS/400; the system interfaces with E-9-1-1, NCIC, and Geobase. The software operating system is Aegis from New World Systems. The benefits include medical, dental and vision coverage for employee and eligible family members, $50/ month healthcare offset, life insurance, long-term disability insurance, EAP, vacation/sick leave accrual, and PERS retirement. The City contributes up to 3% into a compensation plan. Employee pays 10% of the medical insurance premium. Experience and Training Requirements: BA in Communications, Public Administration, Business Administration or a related field: and 5 or more years experience in managing and supervising a centralized 9-1-1-communications center. An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the necessary management skills and abilities will be considered.
