Re: INCIDENT INQUIRY
At your request I investigated the circumstances surrounding an incident at 121 Main St. that occurred on 2-19-xx at 1301 hours. Specifically, you wanted to know if a dispatcher referred a 911 caller to another telephone number.
I listened to the logging recorder tape of the two telephone calls involving this incident. I also looked at the CAD incident and the 911 call records.
At 1301 hours Dispatcher Xxxxx fielded a hang-up call on 911. She telephoned the number back but received an answering machine. She recalled the number at least four times, but still received the answering machine. She did not leave a message and never talked to anyone at the premise.
Xxxxx entered a "A911" CAD incident for the call. Then, at 2111 hours, Dispatcher Yyyyy handled a telephone call from a woman, who said her ex-husband was pounding at the door of 121 Main St. Yyyyy obtained information and entered it into the CAD incident that Xxxxx had entered. During the call, the woman said her ex-husband had left, and gave Yyyyy a description of the vehicle.
Neither dispatcher gave any caller the admonition to call an alternate telephone number.
I checked the 911 call log and found no entry for 121 Main St. during the period of the incident. From this, I assume that the hang-up 911 call that Dispatcher Xxxxx received did not register with the 911 electronics long enough to print the information on the log. The telephone call that Yyyyy received apparently came on a 7-digit telephone number.
If you need further information about this incident, please let me know.
