Dear Friends and Colleagues:

Congratulations! Today marks the beginning of National Public Safety Telecommunications Week.

This week we put a special focus on our Telecommunications professionals. As you are aware, this is a time we recognize the "first" first responder, our esteemed public safety telecommunicators for their contributions towards the safety and security of communities around the world. Everyday, millions of people depend on the skill, expertise and commitment of these professionals. National Public Safety Telecommunications Week enhances public awareness and promotes the much needed education regarding important public safety issues and legislation by placing national attention on the seemingly nameless and faceless individuals who help save countless lives by responding to emergency calls, dispatching emergency professionals and equipment and providing moral support to citizens in distress.

Even though this is a National program, I would like to encourage all public safety communications professionals internationally to celebrate the great work you do on a daily basis. Take the time this week to honor your tireless efforts to continue protecting the lives and property of your nation's citizens. I have already heard about some great plans agencies have to celebrate this week and I am looking forward to hearing more about all of the exciting activities.

Please email your photos to headquarters this week as things occur so we may share them with the rest of the telecommunications professionals. We will be placing them on our website at www.apco911.org so that everyone can view the week's activities. For additional information about National Public Safety Telecommunications Week please contact Kathryn Peterson at 386-322-2500 ext 2443 or e-mail her at petersonk@apco911.org.

Thank you to all of you who work on the forefront of public safety everyday. I encourage you to stand and be celebrated this week. Additionally, I would like to personally thank you all for your support as we move forward to the many changes and challenges that lie ahead for our profession, our Association, our nation and our colleagues internationally.

With much respect,
