Emergency Triage Center

At this point, trained dispatchers use pre-established protocols to determine if an emergency exists. If "yes," the dispatchers have three options to for treatment and transport:

  • A patient with a life-threatening illness or injury receives an advanced life support (ALS) response
  • An inconclusive situation receives a rapid ALS fire response and a longer ambulance response. The ambulance can be canceled, continued or speeded up based on the findings of the first-responder.
  • A non-emergent situation receives an ALS ambulance response only
  • If the Emergency Triage Center determines that the situation is non-emergent, calls are transferred to the Non-Emergency Triage Center for screening and handling.
