Initial Access to EMS

The 911 number is the consolidated access point for emergency services, but call-taking is consolidated at just a few answering points. Call-takers are trained in emergency medical dispatching (EMD), and triage calls and provide pre-arrival instructions.

This method helps reduce response times and reduces costs through consistent application of policies and procedures.

All calls for medical assistance are transferred to the Emergency Triage Center.
