Communications Center Layout

Postby mm911 on Thu Jan 29, 2009 4:27 pm

We are potentially going to be moved/merged with the SO into a Joint 911 Center. Having more than double the space, and new furniture, I was wondering if anyone would mind posting pictures, graphs, or websites of potential floor layout plans. We are hoping to have 4 working stations with 1 administration station. Even if your comm center is much larger, I would still like to see what suggestions for layouts are.

Thank you.

Our new consolodated center is about 6 months from completion. We are bringing 3 city PD centers together with the county 911 center. The final plan calls for 8 work stations and two supervisor offices with redundant equipment in them for two additional stations if needed.

The 8 stations will be configured in two 4-unit circles with the dispatchers facing each other. The consoles will be from Evans Consoles (http://www.evansonline.com).

GOOD LUCK!

I would recommend against facing consoles towards one another, that will make communicating wih your co-workers nearly impossible unless you stand up everytime to talk to them. I would suggest against a wall or in a horseshoe shape. This facilitates better in house communication.

If you visit any large dispatch center, most use the round cluster system. You may not like it, but they do work and work well. If
the noise is kept down in the dispatch center, you will not have any trouble communicating with one of your neighbors in the cluster.
