PHASE II help!

Postby McCone911 on Fri Nov 21, 2008 6:49 pm

I am in a rural agency in montana. I have recently (April) become the dispatch supervisor. Right in the middle of a phase II project. I know what phase II is and what information will be coming to me and what not, but can anyone give me specifics on what to expect? Or maybe refer me to somewhere I can read about it. I have perused NENA and APCO and read up there everything I could.
When I want to call you at work, do I just dial 911?

wow...I typed out a long reply and then managed to erase it! ugh! Anyhow, I am sorry, after reading over my post I realize it really is awful vague.

I recently attended a workshop put on by the state for PSAP managers. We discussed a lot of things, but it really left me with a lot of questions. first, we were told to train our dispatchers for Phase II. Other than rebidding, I am not sure what to train them on?

Also, I was told that I needed to add a wireless portion to my operations manual, but I am wondering what goes in there?

For my personal benefit, I would like to know how the phase II data will come in to me. Does it come in like lat and long on my GPS? I know that our mapping software and CAD will convert it and map the location, but if that is down, I would still like to be able to tell my responders how to get there. even if I only am giving them coordinates to type into their GPS units.

Sorry if I sound kind of ignorant. They just came and installed equipment for our Off Site MSAG, and to hook us up to the "state system" and I guess I thought they were going to better explain things to me, but they just installed the equipment and left. I found out what the process should be for sending letters from the Montana State 911 office website, but am really just wondering what's next?

thanks for the reply!

Whp2 is a really cool when it works. Not all cell-phones can be rebitted to it...and some cell phones
automatically get whp2. Im assuming if you have whp2, or are gonna get it u have map force? What it does is it plots pretty much where the caller is calling from. there is a way on the positron to get the lats long however what I find is to get a better location I just zoom in on the map force. At times it has pinpointed the exact location of the person who needs help. Sometimes it takes a while if you have to re-bid...but I urge u all to keep re-bidding. I have found myself at times rebidding 15 -20 times b4 I got it. And the results never fails. whp2 has yet to get it wrong. Krazy how technology works these days.
