I spent nearly 20 years at a console, starting out with eight years at a fire department, and then another 12 at a police-fire comm center in California. I was lucky enough to know Alan Burton, who passed his legendary DISPATCH Monthly Magazine on to me in 1998. I carried the publication along until early 2009, when I converted it to an on-line publication. I now maintain my public safety connections with the help of police reserve work--now I hear incidents from the other end of the radio!
