The are four rows of Motorola Centracomm II consoles, each with four positions. Each position uses a gas plasma display to show four screens of information. There are always nine positions staffed, corresponding to the four patrol districts, each containing varying numbers of sectors and beats. In this photo, a conveyor belt track runs between the two dispatchers on the right--it originates from the 911 call-taker area behind them. In the upper left of the photo is the changeble status board for "Foxtrot," the police department's Hughes 300 helicopter. The 311 office is beyond the door in the upper left of the photo. On the wall to the right is a plaque with the police department's crest on it. close-up
