In this view of a Baltimore County (Md.) police radio dispatcher, he is operating with five screens mounted on top of a Motorola Centracom II console.. From left to right: the state law enforcement link (Maryland and NCIC), CAD primary and secondary, trunked radio "last unit transmitted" (behind the dispatcher's head), and the Intergraph AVL mapping system. The AVL now uses the maritime LORAN method of radiolocation, which is accurate to within about six blocks. It will soon be upgraded to a GPS-based system.
