This shows one of the eight identical workstations at the Santa Rosa (Calif.) police-fire comm center. The keyboard is adjustable, and the desktop moves up and down electrically to accomodate those who want to stand up while dispatching. The chairs are Hermann Miller Aeron-model. The right console displays Plant Equipment Inc.'s VESTA telephone controller software, the center is Tiburon's CAD software run on a DEC computer but displayed on a PC workstation, and the left console is the secondary CAD screen and the Motorola Centracom Gold radio control software. VESTA provides instant recall recording, while a separate recorder (gray box to the left, on the desktop) records radio transmissions.
To the left in this photo is a mirror-image workstation. The two share a larger desk space (just visible to the left) with a map. To the right is the next pod of two consoles. An identical row of four workstations is behind the camera.
Beyond the workstation are the full-width windows covered by blinds in this night-time photo.
