Status of 112 Emergency Number in
European Union Countries,
as of 1999
The European Union established 112 as the universal emergency number
for its member states, but the legislation
does not require countries to use it exclusively. As a result, most
countries continue to use their existing
emergency number(s) as well as 112, while some are slowly transitioning
to 112-only.
