Even Off-Duty, Dispatcher Was Alert To Danger

Minnesota State Patrol dispatcher Nicholas Carlson was off-duty last month when he spotted an elderly man shuffling along the highway in minus 12-degree weather at 11 o’clock at night. Sensing the man was in danger, Carlson pulled a U-turn, picked up the lightly-dressed man and called his comm center colleagues for help. Officials say the 88 year-old man suffers from Alzheimer’s and had walked away from his assisted living residence. The man suffered no ill effects from his walk, and his family is grateful for Carlson’s alertness to the risk. Read more about the incident here.
