I retired last year from Independence Mo Police Dept after 38 years as a Dispatcher. Over the years I was involved in several very stressful calls. I’ve had both the screams of the 911 caller as they were dying and the Officers screams as they were being shot at.BUT nothing to the magnitude that these individuals had to deal with that night. I have never heard the calmness and professionalism displayed during such a horrific act. Never forget you did make a difference that night. It is not a sign of weakness to admit if you are having difficulties dealing with the emotional aftermath of that night. Seek help if nothing more than to talk about you feelings. Prayers are with all of your unit.

As a fellow dispatcher, you all were wonderful through the ordeal. I am been through something similar in our agency and its tough. Your demeanor on the radio to both pd and fire was amazing. Great job in dealing with this. All your fellow dispatchers out here are with you.

Thank you 9news and Kathie Stauffer for showing the remarkable people that work behind the scenes in 911, and how dedicated and wonderful they are.
So often 911 only gets in the news over one bad apple’s behavior, when in fact 911 Dispatchers are as a group some of the most dedicated, caring, hard working, and professional public safety wokers in the business.

Aurora Dispatchers – fantastic job. You did help save lifes that night. Don’t ever forget that.
