As a Velda City (Mo.) police officer chased a woman through several jurisdictions in suburban St. Louis, he knew the driver had a child in the back seat. However, other officers participating in the chase were on different radio channels and didn’t know about the child, including the Jennings PD officer who fired three shots at the vehicle as it passed over his spike stripe. Off. David Hauck resigned last week when dashcam video of the 30-minute chase and his gunfire was discovered by a local TV station. Neither the female driver, who was pregnant, or her child was hit by the gunfire. The woman stopped about a minute later and was arrested. Jennings police chief Troy Doyle said Hauck was not in the path of the woman’s car when he fire the shots, and was in violation of the department’s use of force policy. Officials of the handling police department say the use of different radio channels made communications difficult. Read more and watch the dashcam video here.
