A call to 911 for help doesn’t become an incident until a dispatcher determines a location for the person in distress, and a great resource for locations is Google Maps. Now the company has added several test-phase features to their browser-based maps that are very useful for dispatchers. You can view the new options by clicking on the “New” label in the upper-left menu (next to the green lab beaker). You then check the boxes of the features you want to activate, including two useful latitude and longitude labels, a great new zoom-to feature and oblique-angle aerial photos for a limited number of U.S. locations. You can also choose to rotate the map orientation (if you want south at the top?), and even play a “Where is it?” game. Surf the new features here.
