Officials at Chicago’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications say they have suspended two dispatchers without pay after an investigation found they mishandled a telephone call from an off-duty CPD police officer who had been shot at by gang members. Spokesperson Ray Orozco did not name either employee, but said one was a dispatcher and the other a supervisor. He also declined to say how long the suspensions were for the two employees. The officer was driving is car on Aug. 28th when several men in another car fired shots at him. He dialed 911, but officers weren’t dispatched for over six minutes. By that time, the suspects had driven off and the officer had reached the safety of a district police station with three bullet holes in his car. The suspects were later arrested and charged.
