Strike Vote Reportedly Was 90% ‘Yes’

Dispatchers at the Calgary (Alb.) 911 center who have been working without a contract since January reportedly voted 90 percent “Yes” to authorize a strike, giving 72 hours notice to the city if negotiations aren’t successful. The city, in return, has begun to train 100 police officers how to perform the duties of dispatching if the workers walk out. Officials of both sides say that talks are scheduled, and they are confident that an agreement can be reached before a strike. The dispatchers are classified as “non-essential,” which legally allows them to strike. The are represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Read more here, and here.
