Dispatchers In Midst of Strike Vote

About 200 dispatchers for Calgary (Alb.) are voting whether to authorize a strike, after their union and the city have been unable to reach an agreement on a new contract. The dispatchers have been working since last January without a contract. City officials said they’ve made contingency plans if the dispatchers walk out. Union business manager John Briegel told a reporter that the next contract talks are scheduled for Aug. 12-14, and that he’s optimistic an agreement can be made.
