CAD Logs Released in Drowning Incident

The Portland (Ore.) Bureau of Emergency Communications has released CAD logs related to a mother’s alleged attempt to kill her two children by throwing them off the Sellwood Bridge into the Wilamette River on May 23rd. Residents along the river heard voices and calls of “Help!” around 1:20 a.m., but couldn’t pinpoint the exact location or see any activity. Arriving police officers could also not find anyone in distress until about 50 minutes later, when two houseboaters brought the 7 year-old and 4 year-old to a yacht club dock after finding them mid-river. The younger boy did not survive, and police later arrested the mother as she attempted to jump from a downtown parking garage. Police believe the incident was sparked by revenge against her estranged husband. Local media have raised questions about the promptness of a response and why boats were immediately requested.
