In April 2008 the voters of Clark County (Wash.) turned down a sales tax increase that would have paid for a new public safety radio network. Motorola had told county officials they wouldn’t be supporting the current system after 2012, and the system wasn’t compatible with adjacent agencies. After the vote, Motorola decided to continue supporting the radio system through 2015, and the county is drafting a radio partnership with nearby Portland, Washington County and a part of Clackamas County to improve interoperability. Officials say economics are driving their move forward to reach out to other jurisdictions and cooperate on new radio gear. Read more about the radio changes here.
