When a gunman walked through a rehabilitation center in Carthage (NC) randomly shooting elderly patients, several people dialed 911 for help. Those calls led to the arrival of Carthage police officer Justin Garner, who was shot and wounded by suspect Robert Stewart with a shotgun blast. But Garner managed to return fire, wounding Stewart ending his rampage. Sadly, eight persons were killed and three other patients were wounded in the shooting. Today the Moore County Sheriff’s Office released logging tapes of the calls, including the dispatcher’s first response–“I need you to get everybody secured.” Read more about the shootings here, and listen (mp3) to 16 minutes of logging tapes here.
The shootings occurred at the Pinehurst Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage (NC).
