Dispatcher Guides Firefighters to Fire Victim

Fire investigators say a fire started by a meth lab operation injured four persons and caused $300,000 in damage to the apartment building, but credited public safety dispatcher Jeff Pestell with helping rescue one victim by guiding firefighters to her location. The 4 a.m. fire was very smoky, fire officials said and generated lots of flames on the second floor. Pestell stayed on the phone with the woman for 10 minutes as fire units responded, geared up and made entry to her second-floor bedroom to rescue her. She had apparently covered herself with blankets and was lying on the floor–not breathing–when firefighters located her. She was taken a a hospital for treatment.
