CHP Call Answer Times Draw Comments

A story in the Sacramento Bee (Calif.) newspaper pointed out the number of 911 calls the California Highway Patrol (CHP) comm centers are handling, and how well they meet a common method of measuring performance for answering the calls. The story noted that the Sacramento regional center has one of the worst records for answering 911 calls within 10 seconds 90% of the time, mistakenly stating that the time is a “national standard.” An accompanying chart for Jan. 2009 showed the Susanville center answering 99.7% of its 857 calls within the standard time, but that the Sacramento center achieved just 81.5% compliance. The Inland center serving the San Bernardino, Barstow and Bishop regions had the worse compliance, at 74.7%. Read the story, check the chart, and also sample the zesty reader comments here.
