Publication Update: One Gone, One Electronic

The economy continues to affect the private sector, including trade publications that focus on public safety and its related technologies. This afternoon RCR Wireless News announced its was ceasing publication of the printed edition and the end of its associated Web site. “Unfortunately, the market for RCR’s products has been hit particularly hard by the global financial meltdown,” said Crain Communications, which publishes 35 other industry publications. “RCR Wireless News was passionately run by first-class people,” said Crain chairman Keith Crain, “and it pains us to make this move but the economy gives us no other choice.” The printed edition was printed bi-weekly and was sent to 50,000 subscribers. The Colorado-based publication debuted in 1981, and about 20 persons have been laid off. In other news, Mission Critical Communications has debuted an electronic version of their publication, allowing readers to skip the paper version and instead browse the magazine electronically. The magazine is formatted with ActivePage technology just like a printed edition, even down to page-turning. Check out the latest edition here.
