The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a recall for 30,000 cellular handsets, saying they may have poor voice quality when making 911 calls. The voluntary recall affects owners of the LG 830 “Spyder” handset. According to a CPSC press release, “(LG) has received one report of a motorist in a disabled car who was able to dial 911, but the call was dropped because the network had difficulty establishing a GPS lock on the phone. No injuries have been reported.” The handset was sold by 13 independent carriers in 8 states and Puerto Rico during 2008. The CPSC says LG is contacting owners to offer a free software upgrade.
