Social Security Numbers = Security Risk?

The use of Social Security numbers on the Springfield (Mo.) radio channels is causing one former officer concern, but police say it isn’t a problem. Tony Cascio wrote the police chief to point out the possibility of persons listening on scanners, and using Social Security numbers that are broadcast by officers to help confirm warrants. The chief and state police officials contacted by a reporter say they try to minimize the use of the numbers or use other methods of communications. A privacy advocate told a reporter that he’s not heard of anyone gathering and using Social Security numbers from police scanners. Read the entire story here.
