The governor of Indiana praised a new consolidated Cass County public safety comm center, noting that a single point of contact would prevent the 911 call transfer and response delay that occurred when a mother and her three chlidren drove off a snowy road and drowned in Hamilton County last December. But Hamilton County sheriff Doug Carter held a press conference to point out that the 911 call reporting the accident was never transferred, emergency units were dispatched within 27 seconds of the call, and firefighters arrived with five minutes. The occupants were rescued from the car and taken to a hospital, but sadly, they could not be saved. Carter said his fellow Republican was politicizing the incident for his own purposes. There are three comm centers in the county, each dispatching for different areas and agencies. Read more about the debate here.
