A woman who dialed 911 from her home in Conklin (NY) waited 18 minutes for an ambulance when her husband collapsed, and he later died. Now Broome County officials explain that the dispatcher sent EMS units to the wrong address because of similar-sounding street names. The woman lives on Gray Court in the community of Conklin, but units were sent to Gray Street in Binghamton, about two miles away. The woman’s address is within the same ZipCode as Binghamton, officials noted. Also contributing to the mix-up is that the caller gave her mailing address in Binghamton, reinforcing the dispatcher’s belief that she was in that town. Conklin town officials will meet to resolve the addressing issues, county officials said. Read more about the incident here. Vheck the map after the break.
