Tragic Shooting Plays Out on 911 Call

A tragic shooting–apparently accidental–was played out during a 12-minute 911 call from a 13 year-old Campbell County (Virg.) boy who sobbed to the dispatcher that he had shot his friend. The unidentified youths were out hunting on a cold winter day, and the older boy slipped on the ice while carrying a .243-cal. rifle. The gun discharged, striking the younger boy in the head, killing him. During the call, an unnamed dispatcher talks to the older boy, who knows that his friend is dead, and who says the victim’s father is at his son’s side. The dispatcher also talks to the older boy’s mother and a neighbor. Listen to the 911 call here.
