Dispatcher Reassures Capsized Boaters

When two men capsized their boat on the Great Salt Lake (Utah) on a cold January day, one of them dialed 911 and reached Utah Highway Patrol dispatcher Kathy Jo Hall, who pinpointed the men’s location and kept them on the line until they were rescued. The location was initially ambiguous, but Hall was able to continue questioning the caller, and then used the cellular phone connection to obtain their latitude and longitude. The rescue took about an hour, as the men were in the cold water. Both were taken to the hospital and recovered. Watch a TV interview with Hall and listen to 911 call snippets here.
