Interop ‘Myths & Legends’ Posted

The solution to public safety interoperability does not rest with the creation of a nationwide broadband network, according to a long Web post by the director of the advocacy group COMCARE. Instead, writes David Aylward, “The key to interoperability is getting new and legacy systems…to communicate with each other, not putting everyone on the same network and buying everyone the same radio.” Aylward also proposes that wireless isn’t the only solution that’s needed for public safety, and that IP and broadband won’t solve public safety’s communications problems. COMCARE is non-profit alliance that provides political lobbying on behalf of a diverse group of groups, including Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), OnStar, Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Assn., and the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC).
