Police in Spotlight After DUI Pursuit

Police in Albany and Bethlehem (NY) are under press and citizen scrutiny after an odd response to a hit-and-run accident and a off-duty officer’s chase of a suspected DUI driver. Albany police won’t answer questions, and Bethlehem police have released conflicting information about the incident, when an off-duty Schenectady officer spotted a speeding truck, which turned out to be driven by an Albany officer. The truck sped from an accident at 70 mph, through a parking lot, and eventually ended up at the APD officer’s home, where BPD arrived two hours later to find two union officials had arrived before them. Both agencies say they did their best to find the vehicle in response to the SPD officer’s call, but a logging tape and newspaper account are confusing. Read the entire story and listen to the very confusing and seemingly incomplete logging tape (multiple radio channels, blank space compressed?) here. The comments to the story are also instructive.
