City Says Pay Hike Not Needed

The city of Lady Lake (Fla.) doesn’t feel it needs to increase the pay of dispatchers, now that the economy has turned bad and the unemployment rate has increased. That’s the theory of mayor Jim Richards, who told a reporter that the job has minimal requirements and that it shouldn’t be difficult finding applicants with a 8% jobless rate. Starting pay is $12.02 a hour, according to police chief Ed Nathanson, who said other county agencies have much higher pay rates. Read more about the pay debate here.
