Canada Wireless 911 Upgrade ‘More Than Expected’

The cost to upgrade Canada’s cellular systems to implement Phase II location features could be in the hundreds of millions of dollars–per carrier, according to industry officials in a long story in the Globe and Mail. The newspaper has been running a series of articles revealing that the nation’s cellular systems and comm centers have limited capabilities to locate 911 callers, and make comparisons with the United States systems.
