Spectrum Groups Asks Obama for Funding

The Public Safety Spectrum Trust (PSST) has sent President-elect Barack Obama a letter asking for a share of the government’s economic stimulus money to create a nationwide 700 MHz public safety broadband network. The PSST letter said that $15 billion from the government “would greatly stimulate the economy through the creation of quality jobs,” and provide a long-term investment in the nation’s economic future. The letter, signed by PSST chair Harlin McEwen, warned Obama that, “Time is of the essence,” and noted that it’s been seven years since a Sept. 11th commission recommended a nationwide radio network for public safety. “Urgent action is needed now,” McEwen concluded.
