The National Emergency Number Association (NENA) has issued a “Transition Policy Brief” on the subject of emerging technologies, urging policymakers to require that new devices provide their location to the nation’s 911 systems. The 3-page paper notes the various new forms of communications that have emerged without location capabilities, forcing the public safety community to adapt and handle their 911 calls. Now NENA wants policies and standards in place up-front, so that new devices must recognize and acknowledge the needs of reaching 911 before they reach the consumer.
