An investigative report by the federal General Accountability Office (GAO) says that a joint radio project by three federal agencies was intended to improve their wireless communications, but after 7 years the agencies have abandoned all attempts at cooperation. In their report to Congress, the GAO said the DoJ, DHS and Department of Treasury are now independently modernizing their communications systems, instead of pursuing the $5 billion Integrated Wireless Network (IWN) that was conceived after the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks. The agencies, “could not agree on a common outcome or purpose to overcome their differences in missions, cultures, and established ways of doing business.” Download (pdf) the full report here.
