Dispatcher, Family Dies in House Fire

Sad news from Wisconsin, where the Waushara County Sheriff’s Department reports that dispatcher Peggy Baneck, 47, died in a house fire along with her husband Larry and son Charlie. Peggy’s co-workers received a call at 1:26 a.m. this morning about the fire, and firefighters arrived to find the house fully-involved. Her son Anthony, 22, and daughter Katie, 16, escaped the fire with minor injuries. The Banecks have three other children. Baneck was a 7-year veteran of the sheriff’s comm center. Update: Autopsies found the family died of carbon monoxide and smoke inhalation. Fire investigators say the origin of the fire was an area in front of a wood-burning fireplace. Flags were lowered to half-staff outside the sheriff’s office headquarters. Watch a video report here.
