Open Mike Captures Lt.’s Threat

An open microphone in a patrol car apparently captured the cellular phone conversation of a Gloucester (Mass.) police lieutenant as he made threats to hire someone to break the windows of a woman’s home. Police confirmed that Lt. Michael O’Hanley is under investigation after a logging tape of the radio transmission was obtained by WBZ-TV. During the call, O’Hanley allegedly talks to an unknown person about the divorce of his son and daughter-in-law. At one point O’Hanley is heard saying that he would “hire (someone) to go over there and bust all her windows.” During the “open mike” transmission, a dispatcher repeatedly tries to alert officers, and eventually directs another officer to find the lieutenant and clear the radio channel.
