Motorola Posts Loss, Radio Revenue Up

Despite a substantial overall company loss for the latest quarter, Motorola’s two-way radio division reported increased revenues and a modest profit. The company reported sales were down 15% to $7.4 billion, and posted a $397 million loss. The results were driven mostly by the company’s cellular handset division, where increased competition pushed sales down 31% for the quarter, and created an $840 million loss. But the division that supplies public safety radio systems reported revenues of $2 billion, up 4% from the same quarter of 2007. Profit was $403 million, up 23% from last year.
