State Audit Finds 911 Problems

The auditor general of Pennsylvania has released a report on the state’s E911 system and found that 11 of 69 PSAPs do not have Phase II wireless locating capabilities, despite $214 million in funding over almost four years. Jack Wagner’s investigation found that inadequate state staffing prevented Phase II money from being efficiently disbursed. The auditor also found the state’s Emergency Management Agency hasn’t been proactive enough in handling future E911 challenges. The report recommends filling two vacant positions, strengthening oversight, and clarifying procedures and policies. Download (pdf) the full 77-page report here.
