White House Puts ‘Hold’ On Alerting System

The White House has asked the Department of Homeland Security to stop spending any money on a national alerting system, after an advisory committee reported that the system would likely not be widely used. An article in The Wall Street Journal says that $150 million was budgeted for the system, and is considered a second-generation system.
