Sheriff Candidates Debate Comm Center Future

Voters in Baxter County (Ark.) will chose between two candidates for sheriff–incumbent John Montgomery or Gassville police officer Everett Uchtman. Both have different plans for the sheriff’s comm center, which is now housed in the jail. Uchtman wants the center to move back to Baxter County 911, where it once was located, saying the jail is “too uncontrolled” to house the critical operation. Montgomery says the operation is efficient and safe, and says there’s an advantage to having dispatchers work directly for the sheriff. Read the entire debate here.
