City-County Merger Plans Collapse

All plans for merging the dispatching operations of Shelby County (Tenn.) and Memphis have collapsed, participants say. The initiative to merge the two comm centers began about 7 years ago, and mayor Willie Herenton recently asked both sides to “lay down their weapons” and come to an agreement. But now 911 district officials say that the plan is again off the table after disagreements over jurisdiction and funding. Read more about the on-going battle here.
