Houston Nears Approval For New Radio System

The Houston (Tex.) city council could approve the mayor’s proposal next week to spend $107 million on a new public safety radio system that will handle 10,000 radios for police, fire, EMS and city utility workers. The city now uses an extensive 450/460 MHz radio network , but will move to 700 MHz trunked under mayor Bill White’s plan. Surrounding Harris County already has an 800 MHz trunked radio system, and the city may offer to let them join the new system. Read more about the upgrade here.
