Dispatchers’ Contract Goes to Arbitration

The nine dispatchers for the town of New Milford (Conn., pop. 29,000) have been working for two years without a contract, and now the union has filed a request to have an arbitrator step in and come up with a decision. Union officials accuse the town of stalling, and town officials say the dispatchers changed unions in mid-negotiations, which made the process longer. Two unrelated auto accidents involving the union officials also delayed the negotiations. At issue are insurance coverage, wages and comp time. Read more about the situation here.
